Meet Allis: Our Not-so-New Tractor! Print E-mail

There was a time when specialty tractors for smaller scale vegetable farming were everywhere.  These vintage specialty tractors were well built and high quality workhorses, and fortunately for us, with a little extra research, can still be found.

Ours comes from Michigan, a 1948, Allis Chalmers "G" - a specially designed vegetable tractor that keeps us farmers up close and personal with our crops.

As you can see in the picture, the engine sits in the back, behind the driver, with the front end open so your farmers can see both the plants we're working with, and the tools we're operating.

GG" ready to start seeding with the Planet Jr. seeders underneath.

Allis, or "GG" as we've started calling her, will get lots of use cultivating, seeding, and weeding all the fresh produce we've planned for the coming season!

Member Work Day Today

Saturday, June 5

9am to 12pm: Field Work, 12pm to 1pm:  Potluck Lunch

Your Personal Farmers are up and at em' this morning, and planning to work until it really rains.

There is a 70% chance of rain today, per the latest forecast.  This may be enough of a percentage that you may not want to make the drive to the farm, only to have it be a washout, but we'll let you decide.

We'll be working until the rain comes "for real" and as long as there isn't lightning and thunder, and we welcome any of you that want to join us.

Directions to the farm:

From US Interstate 35, take exit 45 - Clinton Falls - same exit as Cabela's, 2 miles north of Owatonna, or 1 Mile south of Medford.  Turn east, if heading south from the Twin Cities, or right if heading north from Owatonna.  You will come to a "T" in the road at County Road 45.

In front of you will be a blue sign saying "Clinton Falls Farm" with an arrow pointing North, or to the left.  Turn left and follow County Road 45 about 3/4 of a mile to NW 21st Ave. on the right, just past the river.  NOTE:  Do not turn onto the white road as indicated on the attached Google map, 50th Street, as it is closed to traffic, and dead ends at the river.

Turn right and follow it past the first farm to the bend in the road where you will see our "Clinton Falls Farm" sign in front of the barn.  Park there, in front of the fence and barn, and meet us in "The Hub" under the trees beyond the house.

Call Farmer John's Cell if lost... 763-458-5591

Thank you for RSVP'ing and having an interest in visiting us at the farm to help out.  If you decide to not make the trip in light of the risk of rain, we'll understand.

John and Lowell

We've Updated our Website Print E-mail

If you've visited our website during the past week and a half you probably noticed that, well... there wasn't one! There was an informational page letting you know we were busy updating our website. I am pleased to announce with this post that we have completed the task at hand!

Those of you familiar with our website might at first say to yourself ... "Uhm, what's different?" I hope to fill you in on all the changes within this post.

We like our website and we didn't want to change it's design, and so if you see little that's different then we are pleased. Ultimately what we've been working so hard on is updating our web site's coding. We've upgraded the site's operating system, so to speak. Technology is ever changing and web sites need to keep up in order to keep them up to date and secure, which we take very seriously.

Here are some of the newer features at ClintonFallsFarm.com:

  • Our site's template has been revamped and is now more compatible in most major internet browsers, operating systems and mobile devices.
  • We have tighter security throughout all pages, registrations, communications and forms.
  • We've created a completely new recipe section! Many of you spoke about the challenges you faced with our old system and we are pleased to announce our new recipe program should make it much easier to share your recipes! It has a simpler interface, yet it is far more robust and user friendly. Now you can even upload images with your recipe so we can see first hand how it should look!
  • In our storefront you should notice better usability and performance, and as always our security is well ahead of the game. ClintonFallsFarm.com has never been hacked!

In addition:

  • We are in the process of publishing a better photo gallery, which we believe you will find more enjoyable and easier to navigate.
  • The new photo gallery has a better administrative interface, which will make it easier for us to manage and keep up to date.
  • In the days to come we will be updating content and pictures throughout the site, as well populating the recipe section with all of your recipes from our old website.
  • Our newly upgraded website also allows for better integration with newer technologies. We will be adding many more features in the days, weeks and months to come.

Enjoy!

WE HAVE A NEW WELL!!

Sorry for the capitalization, but if you are a returning member, you know how big a deal this is for us! Last summer our existing well gave out under the pressure of the very dry summer, and while we managed to hold our own through the season, it proved to be a pretty stressful year.

Now, with the new well that went in this week, we have enough water volume and pressure to irrigate the fields, and take a shower, maybe even run the dishwasher, not to mention laundry! If we only had time to deal with the mess that resulted from all the digging!
