The amount of produce you can expect will depend on the share option you purchase. FULL Shares are distributed every week throughout the CSA season, while HALF shares are distributed every other week.
The 6 to 12 items per week as indicated on our CSA Program page, is reflective of the number of varieties available based on season, and of course, based on growing conditions, weather, etc. At the start of the season, you will be receiving closer to 6 items, then, as the season progresses, that number will increase to around 12 varieties during the peak summer months, and then the number of items may decrease again as we near the end of the season. Throughout the season, we try to include a mix of the varieties in each of the categories of produce we grow. Herbs, salad mix, cooking greens, fruits, root vegetables, vine produce (cucumbers, beans, tomatoes) etc... In June, at the start of the season, dependent on weather, you will receive a mix of the following: Herbs, Lettuces (Leaf, Head, Salad Mix, or some combination) Arugula, Spinach, Peas, Radishes, Kohlrabi, Cabbage, baby beets, etc... In Late July and into August, again, dependent on weather, you'll be receiving a mix of Herbs, Tomatoes, Sweet and/or Hot Peppers, Beans (Green, yellow, purple or a mix) carrots, onions, Beets, Eggplant, Cucumbers, Sweet Corn, Broccoli, Cooking Greens (Chard, Mustard Greens, Bok Choi, etc) Melons, etc... As you'd expect, the varieties will change throughout the season. As for quantities, it is hard to say whether the quantities are enough for any given family. The size of the family, the age of the kids, and other factors result in families eating varying amounts of vegetables. Some members feel overwhelmed by the quantity, while others could easily use more. Again, depending on growing conditions, we will always provide as much as we can, without overwhelming an average member. Typically, a bag of Salad mix weighs about 16 ounces (1 pound). Beans can be as much as 2 pounds. Tomatoes, at their peak, 4 pounds. Carrots - 10 to a bunch. Beets, 3 extra large, or 6 medium to a bunch. A pint of raspberries when available, and so on... Our members always feel like they are getting their money's worth in quantity. Whether that quantity needs to be supplemented, or divided, is really unique to each family.
